Welcome to Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo

In Loving Memory of
Dr. Francesco Giacobbe
(1933-2024)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our esteemed founder, Dr. Francesco Giacobbe, on March 26th, 2024. A visionary, a devoted family man, and a beacon of hope to many, Dr. Giacobbe’s journey on this earth came to a peaceful close surrounded by his cherished family. Born in Sicily, Italy, in 1933, Francesco, affectionately known to us as Dr. Frank. He, embarked on a remarkable journey that saw him move from the storied streets of his birthplace to Syracuse, New York, following in the footsteps of his parents, before finally making his home in Buffalo.

In 2010, alongside his late, beloved wife, Renata Scognamiglio Giacobbe, Dr. Giacobbe founded Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo driven by a shared vision of creating an accessible, welcoming space where inclusivity knew no bounds. Their dream was fueled by Francesco’s unwavering faith, the deep-rooted love for his family, and a lifetime of dedication to his work.

Francesco’s legacy is one of unparalleled commitment to his calling. As a pediatrician for over five decades, his gentle touch and compassionate care left an indelible mark on countless lives. A member of the esteemed Baccelli Medical Club, his professional journey was characterized by an unending pursuit of excellence and a profound desire to serve.

Dr. Giacobbe’s life was rich with the joy of exploration, frequently traveling to Sicily and the Adriatic coast’s serene town of Pescara. Yet, no matter how far his journeys took him, his heart remained firmly anchored to his roots—his family, his community, and his faith.

An avid and expert mushroom hunter, Francesco found solace and delight in the embrace of nature, a passion that he lovingly shared with his children and grandchildren. His love for his extended family knew no bounds, and he was a cherished figure, known for his generous spirit, infectious laughter, and the profound wisdom he imparted effortlessly.

As we mourn the loss of Dr. Francesco Giacobbe, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life that was a testament to the power of faith, the importance of family, and the impact of serving others with dedication and love. His legacy will continue to inspire Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo as we uphold the values and vision that he and Renata so passionately nurtured.

In keeping with Francesco’s giving spirit, the family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo, supporting the continuation of the work that was so dear to his heart.

Dr. Francesco Giacobbe’s remarkable journey may have reached its earthly conclusion, but his spirit, love, and the lessons he shared will forever remain with us. Rest in peace, Dr. Giacobbe.. Your memory will continue to guide and inspire us all.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors
